I posted quite a long time ago weird behavior with the menu if you jump off the train on kerwan and ILM right before you die. I found this a while ago and I believe it similar to that. I have no idea why. But my best guess is that the gamestate is in-level movie while we're controlling ratchet and changing the gamestate to other things makes the effect go away. But the gamestate gets set back after? Again, total guess. Most of the time when you try to do this the game will crash aswell.
